Tschuggen Mountain Spa, CH

A landmark spa building uses Polybutene-1 piping for its water systems.

The four-storey building, which serves as a spa for the well-known Tschuggen Grand Hotel, was named “Bergoase” (mountain oasis). The specified Polybutene-1 piping system was used for the transport of water throughout the complex. The flexibility of the Polybutene-1 piping permitted both intricate and straight installations in the building and outside, with the minimum of connections.

A Polybutene Piping System was specified for the landmark Tschuggen Mountain Oasis in Switzerland. 

The flexibility of Polybutene-1 permits slight changes in direction without fittings. This means fewer additional parts and also saves valuable time on location.

Well-known architect Mario Botta designed a landmark wellness spa of over 5,000 square meters in the mountain region of Arosa in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The distinctive design of the roof construction sets this complex apart from many others with its attractive sails made of glass and steel.

The sails provide welcome light during the day and an attractive glow by night. The four-storey building – which serves as a spa for the well-known Tschuggen Grand Hotel – was named “Bergoase” (mountain oasis). Many of the materials used in the structure are from local mountain sources and are incorporated into the state-of-the-art sauna and bathing facilities.

The four floors and 3500 sq.m. are divided into different spa areas including fitness club, sauna and steam baths, relaxation rooms and a water world. The GF Piping Systems' INSTAFLEX system made from Polybutene-1 was used for the transport of water to all of these areas within the building. Manifolds in ø110 mm and distribution lines in ø16 to ø75 mm were also specified by the building engineers. The flexibility of the Polybutene-1 piping permitted both intricate and straight installations throughout the complex and outside the building with the minimum of connections.

What is INSTAFLEX?

INSTAFLEX is a modern Polybutene-1 piping system for applications in building technology. Pressurised hot and cold water, cooling systems and compressed air are the most frequent uses. GF Piping Systems offers complete solutions using Polybutene-1 for single-family homes, whole housing complexes or industrial buildings.

Dimensions from ø16 to ø225 mm guarantee consistent use of the same system from the single-family home to an airport or a high seas luxury liner. Polybutene-1 stays flexible and easy to install, even at low temperatures such as those experienced in the Graubünden canton of Switzerland. Prefabricated riser strands can be rolled up and transported easily for fast installation in shafts. For fine distribution in the small dimensions, the INSTAFLEX system is complemented with the iFIT push-fit system. This jointing technique requires no tools; and its attractiveness lies in the speed and simplicity of installation.
