Engineering comfort on the water with TERRAIN SDP push-fit systems

MOAT Manufacture has been building premium “homes on the water” for international markets since 2016. For these floating units, the onboard hot and cold water installation needs to be compact, dependable, and resilient in a marine environment. To meet those requirements, MOAT selected the TERRAIN SDP polybutene-1 (PB-1) system supplied by Nueva Terrain Poland (holding a DNV shipbuilding certification).

Technical solution and material selection

The installed solution is the TERRAIN SDP system of PB-1 pipes and fittings. The range covers pipe diameters from 15 to 160 mm, with push-fit jointing used in the 15 to 50 mm range and welded techniques available for larger sizes where required. The push-fit assembly is designed as a simple, tool-light method (cut and connect), supporting fast build cycles and consistent joint quality across repeatable boat layouts.

Key advantages of using the TERRAIN SDP push-fit system

Fast and reliable assembly with a long track record: TERRAIN SDP push-fit system boasts a fast and reliable assembly technology, backed by over 40 years of proven performance in the market.

High chemical resistance in marine conditions: Polybutene-1  provides high chemical resistance, making it ideal for combating the corrosive effects of sea water environments.

High flexibility that fits complex shapes: PB-1’s inherent flexibility allows the system to be seamlessly routed to fit every shape and constraint within the vessel's unique structure.

Installation Efficiency: the system is perfectly suited for prefabrication, allowing entire sections of the installation to be prepared off-site, dramatically reducing assembly time on the vessel.

A wide product and diameter range to solve installation constraints: with TERRAIN SDP system offers a huge product range and ensures you can resolve any possible installation challenge. Providing a complete solution for complex marine projects.

Project benefits

  • Reduced installation time through push-fit jointing and prefabrication-friendly design
  • Robust performance in salt-influenced environments thanks to PB-1 chemical resistance
  • Easier routing in compact hull and superstructure spaces due to pipe flexibility
  • Fewer joints and fittings in many routes, supporting long-term reliability
  • Full-system availability (pipes, fittings, accessories) to handle real-world installation constraints

Conclusion and more information

The TERRAIN SDP system ensures that MOAT houseboats are equipped with a modern, reliable, and efficient water supply that is built to last in challenging environments. MOAT’s houseboats are engineered for long-life use on the water, with hull options in marine-grade steel or aluminium that reflect serious marine design intent. Selecting TERRAIN SDP in PB-1 for hot and cold water distribution aligns with that philosophy: fast installation, strong resistance to saltwater-related exposure, flexible routing, efficient prefabrication, and a broad fitting portfolio to address real-world constraints in a floating structure.
