Chobham Manor, GB

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park development is a blueprint for major change across east London. Over the next 20 years, 6,800 homes will be built in this area. PBPSA member company RWC | John Guest supplied JG Speedfit push-fit fittings and JG Layflat pipe made from Polybutene-1 (Polybutylene, PB-1) for the bathroom and kitchen pressure plumbing and underfloor installations for a key section of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park development, Chobham Manor.

Olympic venue becomes dream home for Londoners

Chobham Manor is the first of five neighbourhoods in London’s newest urban park. It comprises 850 homes, community facilities, shops and 1,500 square metres of publicly accessible open space with a landscaped central green and an outdoor play area. Located in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Chobham Manor and its surrounding neighbourhood is creating a new metropolitan way of life.

Perfectly blending economic growth with diversity and cultural vibrance, the development creates an exciting and sustainable community. A commuter’s dream, this neighbourhood is minutes away from Stratford International, the Central and Jubilee tube lines and more.

Chobham Manor apartment bathrooms and kitchens utilize JG Speedfit PB-1 push-fit fittings and ultra flexible JG Layflat pipe.

Both the kitchen and bathrooms in Chobham Manor’s apartments make these properties incredibly desirable. The bathroom and kitchen both feature contemporary, minimalist look with beautiful chrome and steel finishes, creating an aesthetically pleasing design and utilize JG Speedfit push-fit fittings and JG Layflat pipe made from Polybutene-1 (Polybutylene, PB-1).

With multiple apartments built over a small footprint, Elmech Ltd, the M&E contractor at Chobham Manor knew that the first fix installation of pipes, valves and fittings for plumbing and heating would be a challenge. So, they opted for a range of reliable and easy to install JG Speedfit push-fit fittings and JG Layflat pipe made from PB-1, along with Reliance Valves 315I Series of Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs).

What made this range of 28mm PRVs so attractive is the fact that they are a sustainable option to achieve an overall reduction in the apartments’ water consumption. They are designed to cut down the amount of water that pass through a pipe by reducing the water pressure throughout the system, helping the development achieve a higher BREEAM rating.

In addition to this, the flats also benefit from JG Underfloor Heating, which features the ultra flexible JG PB-1 Layflat pipe, push-fit manifolds, and JG Aura smart heating controls. Hidden from sight, underfloor heating creates a comfortable living space, helps reduce heating bills and maintains a consistent temperature throughout the property by eliminating cold spots.

Polybutene-1 is often referred to as Polybutene, Polybutylene, PB-1 or PB.

Polybutene-1 is not sold by PBPSA members for use in pipe applications intended for use in North America, and those parties require their customers or distributors not to sell products made from PB-1 into pipe applications for North America.
