The vision of the founder, John O'Sullivan was to create a retirement community that residents would be happy to call home.

Summerset at Wigram village comprises 170 self-contained units and 55 units in the main building utilizing the Dux Secura PB-1 piping system.

The first village opened in 1997 and since then Summerset has become one of the country's largest and most respected operators in the retirement village and aged care sector.

The modern retirement village, Summerset at Wigram, is located in the south west of Christchurch and comprises 170 self-contained units and 55 units in main building. During the construction planning phase Dux was chosen to be the supplier of the Polybutene-1 piping system to be used throughout the complex and the Dux 15mm and 20mm SecuraTM system was specified throughout for the following reasons:

  • Installation
PB-1 piping systems have revolutionised how pressurised hot and cold water systems are installed. No bending tools, no flame, no fluxes, no chemicals. Its light weight and flexibility made installation at Summerset Wigram simple, fast and efficent.
  • Performance
PB-1 is the latest generation choice for piping systems due to long-term benefits including its creep resistance, thermal pressure resistance, acoustics/noise absorption and impact toughness. A key consideration made for PB-1 piping system selection was that it will not scale-up in hard water areas or corrode in soft water areas.
  • Reliability
In Europe PB-1 piping systems installed as specified have been in uninterrupted pressurised operation for up to 50 years and counting. The Dux PB-1 SecuraTM system has received a very high reliability rating from property managers and plumbers in New Zealand and Australia.
  • Environmental Impact
A key consideration was the low environmental impact of the SecuraTM PB-1 piping system. For all comparative indices, Polybutene-1 is rated as one of the products delivering the lowest levels environmental impact – consuming less energy during manufacture, conversion, installation and use than its competitors.

. . . . . . . . .

Polybutene-1 is often referred to as Polybutene, Polybutylene, PB-1 or PB.

Polybutene-1 is not sold by PBPSA members for use in pipe applications intended for use in North America, and those parties require their customers or distributors not to sell products made from PB-1 into pipe applications for North America.
